Before the exam
Preparation in the final weeks should be deliberate, not frantic. The right habits now prevent panic later.
- Sit at least two full mock tests under real timing.
- Build a phrase bank for writing and speaking.
- Review your weakest section, not your favourite one.
- Practise with a watch so the pacing feels normal.
Reading tips
Read the questions before the text, skim for gist, then scan for keywords. Watch for synonyms — the answer rarely repeats the wording of the question. Budget your time per part and never leave a blank.
Listening tips
Use the seconds before each part to read and predict. Listen for the key fact rather than every word, and don't freeze on unknown vocabulary. If a part plays twice, use the first pass for gist and the second for detail.
Writing tips
Cover every bullet point — examiners check that first. Plan briefly, match the register to the situation, and save two minutes to check word order, capitals and case endings. At B2, one longer text is the task, so structure beats length.
Speaking tips
Treat your partner as a real conversation: ask questions, react, agree and disagree. Use filler phrases instead of silence when you think, and speak at a steady pace. Interaction earns marks in the planning task.
Exam-day logistics
Arrive early with your ID, eat beforehand, and bring water. Knowing the order of the modules removes surprises. Calm logistics free your mind to focus on German.
The single best habit
If you do one thing, take full timed mock tests and review every mistake. Nothing else exposes your weak points and builds exam stamina as effectively.

TELC readiness check
Before you book your telc Deutsch B2 exam, find out whether you are actually ready. A readiness check is simply a full, timed mock test that produces a single score across reading, listening, writing and speaking — the same four skills the real exam measures. If your readiness score is comfortably above the pass mark on two separate tests, you are ready to book with confidence.
Sprichst turns each mock attempt into a readiness score and breaks it down by section, so you can see at a glance whether your exam guides work is paying off or whether another skill is holding you back. Re-check every couple of weeks to track your progress toward 60% overall and a pass in both the written and the oral parts.
